Littlehampton Seafront Scheme: latest news

There’s lots of activity on the seafront as the scheme starts to take shape and we’re pleased to see people reading the information available on the site.

Work to the overflow car park is ongoing. When the ground has been dug out to the correct levels, a new surface will be laid which allows the grass to grow through it.

The walls of the new foreshore building are being constructed, and the beginnings of a roof can be seen on the toilet block.

Concrete has been laid in the water feature pools by a specialist sub-contractor and electrical connections are being made in the plant room.

Hospitality businesses in Arun urged to make crucial electrical safety checks

Arun District Council will be working with the hospitality sector to raise awareness of electrical safety in their outdoor spaces.

Owners or managers of businesses such as pubs, restaurants, cafés and hotels have a responsibility to ensure their outside spaces are safe, this includes outdoor lighting, heating and speakers.

We want to ensure checks have been made for when the public start to make the most of the warmer weather.

The importance of electric safety checks was highlighted following the death of a seven-year-old boy in September 2018, who was electrocuted in a pub garden in Essex.

Lashmar skate park improvements

Improvements to the skate park in East Preston have recently begun, with designs based on public feedback.

The park enhancements will feature a range of low-level ramps for beginners on skateboards and scooters, with Skatelite pro riding surfaces which are quieter than metal and will be installed with new tarmac surfacing.

East Preston Parish Council kindly agreed to donate £10,000 towards the project, allowing us to improve the skate park for both beginners and more advanced skaters.

Did you know? We donate old laptops – helping pupils and the planet

We have been donating our second-hand laptops to schools for a while now – these are computers that have reached the end of their business life and are no longer effective at running council systems.

Rather than going to waste, the council donate them local schools as they are still functional for basic use.

After being wiped of data, the computers are delivered to schools by the council’s facilities team. Recently, we have given eight laptops to Walberton and Binstead Church of England Primary school and the same to Arundel Church of England Primary school.
